14 Scholarships for doctoral candidates

In the framework of a cooperative research training group program (Kooperatives Promotionskolleg) between Heidelberg University and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences entitled “PERPHARMANCE – Personalized Medicine and Organoid Pharmaceutical Test Models: Advanced Materials, Analytics, and Computing”, Heidelberg University is accepting applications for scholarships to pursue a doctorate in Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Engineering Sciences, or Informatics. The scholarships are granted by the Land Baden-Württemberg, Heidelberg University and Konanz Foundation. They entitle and support doctoral candidates in carrying out their doctoral projects within the framework of the cooperative research training group.
Research training group

The cooperative research training group gives doctoral candidates the opportunity to work with experts from Heidelberg University and Mannheim University of Applied Sciences as well as cooperating companies to develop novel drug testing models and analytical concepts for personalized medicine. In an interdisciplinary approach, physicians, biotechnologists, engineers, material and data scientists develop seminal stem cell-based in vitro disease and drug testing models and promote our understanding of cell and material interaction via experimental and mathematical modeling. To facilitate personalized therapy decisions, we will apply cutting-edge analysis technologies, paired with high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and novel tools in digital health. Interactive work packages and a consequently interdisciplinary tandem supervision concept combined with a structured qualification program allow the doctoral candidates to develop their individual scholarly profile at early stages of their careers. We seek reliable, highly motivated applicants with a spirit for teamwork in an interdisciplinary and international research environment.
To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants
a) have completed their master´s (or equivalent) in the areas of medical sciences, natural sciences, engineering sciences, mathematics, or informatics with an above-average grade,
b) have a strong command of the theories and methods relevant for their project proposal,
c) have a strong command of English,
d) ideally have experience in the pertinent research contexts (e.g., research stays, internships within research groups, student/graduate assistant, etc.).

Scholarships are comprised of a monthly stipend of € 1,500. The scholarships are awarded for up to three years, commencing as of March 2023.

- Motivation letter (max 1.5 pages, explaining the specific motivation for your application referring to your thematic areas of interest and specifying your scientific background, previous experience),
- University degrees (bachelor´s, master´s, etc.),
- Proof of English (if not a native speaker),
- Two recommendation letters (written by faculty or industrial academic supervisors).
